Dear colleagues & friends,
On behalf of the International Society for Hemodialysis (ISHD) and the Colombian Association of Nephrology and Hypertension, we are pleased to welcome you to participate in the XII International Congress of the International Society for Hemodialysis 2018 in Cartagena.
Almost 3 million patients with chronic kidney disease are now receiving life sustaining treatment with dialysis world-wide. The number of patients treated in individual countries varies dramatically, and Government of Colombia and the Colombian Association of Nephrology and Hypertension must be congratulated on developing an extensive dialysis program, with a greater than 150% increase in the number of patients receiving dialysis treatment over the last decade. However, such an expanding dialysis program requires not only appropriate technology, but also training and education. As such the International Society for Hemodialysis is delighted to partake in the XII International Congress in the beautiful and historic sea-side city of Cartagena.
The scientific programs will cover both sessions designed to provide both practical advice on improving quality of dialysis treatments and also the most recent developments in the field of hemodialysis, ranging from uremic toxins, vascular access, hemodiafiltration, and innovations in hemodialysis, with emphasis on providing dialysis for patients with acute kidney injury, and the complications associated with chronic kidney disease, including mineral bone disease, anemia, and cardiovascular disease. The pre-congress sessions and CME courses have been designed for young nephrologists in training and nurses to provide a practice based education program and an aid to clinical management.
In addition to the exciting high-level scientific program, Catagena is one of the most attractive cities in the world. Not only famous for its spectacular temples, and world-famous floating markets, but also for renowned for its delicious cuisine.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Colombia for the XII international congress of ISHD in April 2018.

Dear Colleagues and Friends:
Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) is an integral and multidisciplinary organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of patients in renal therapy and improving access results for dialysis through multidisciplinary collaboration among all professionals who interact in the creation and maintaining access for dialysis.
This is why VASA chapter Latin America will conduct, in conjunction with the International Society for Hemodialysis (ISHD) and The Colombian Society of Nephrology, on April 18-21, 2018, the first Latin American Symposium on dialysis access during which it will be offered for the first time in the Latin American region a simulator workshop where you will have the opportunity to learn or improve the different surgical and / or interventional techniques for the creation and maintenance of access for hemodialysis. In addition we will have a very varied theoretical agenda dictated by speakers of the highest world quality that will give us valuable contributions both in state-of-the-art technology and in updating the routine practices of each field.
For the accomplishment of all this could not have been chosen a better place in the Caribbean: Cartagena de Indias, pride of Colombia and historical patrimony of the humanity. This beautiful city with its colonial architecture, its sea breeze and the attractions of an intense nightlife, cultural festivals, lush landscapes, magnificent beaches, as well as an excellent gastronomic offer awaits you with open arms.
