The Colombian Association of Nephrology and Arterial Hypertension (ASOCOLNEF) is the proud host of the XXII Congress of the International Society for Hemodialysis -ISHD-.
The Colombian Association of Nephrology and Arterial Hypertension (ASOCOLNEF) is an academic association dedicated to promoting the evolution and development of nephrology in Colombia. It aims to contribute to the development of renal science and nephrology and work for the treatment and care of patients with renal diseases, with mutual cooperation not only among members but also with individuals involved in related academic and practical fields in Colombia and abroad.
As of September 2016, the society had 226 members, it represents more than 70% of nephrologist in the country. The President for the 2016 – 2018 term is Dra. Adriana Robayo G.
ASOCOLNEF publishes one official journal: Revista Colombiana de Nefrologia (Colombian Journal of Nephrology), which is published each semester with references worldwide. It publishes original articles of basic and clinical research, review articles, reflection, case reports and letters to the director. ASOCOLNEF holds a biannual academic meeting for all members together with the assembly of delegates once a year.
The International Society for Hemodialysis (ISHD) was formed in 1999, by a group of world-renowned nephrologists who believed that the science and clinical practice of hemodialysis was being overlooked by the other major societies and journals in favor of molecular biology and other basic science-focused research endeavors. Their vision was to develop a society and journal focused primarily on the practice of clinical hemodialysis. Today ISHD represents patients and professionals involved in Hemodialysis in all regions of the world.
The mission of the ISHD, is to improve the knowledge and skills in hemodialysis by means of publications, conferences and internet communications. ISHD aims to educate and train patients, patients’ relatives, technologists, technicians, social workers, dietitians, administrators, sales experts, nurses, scientists, journalists, physicians, industrialists, and philanthropists in the development of hemodialysis knowledge around the world. The ISHD holds an annual world congresses, which rotate throughout the regions (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe) of the world. The congress consists of scientific sessions, teaching courses as well as structural and business meetings.
Education, improvement of hemodialysis focused sciences and knowledge are the main aims of the ISHD. For this reason, several programs such as the University of Hemodialysis and the journal of Hemodialysis International, which sets protocols and guidelines to professionals, are led by ISHD.
The Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) is devoted to the advancement of the field of dialysis access through research, education and advocacy for patients with end stage kidney disease. The advances in field of dialysis access come through multidisciplinary collaboration, research, education and advocacy.
VASA is focused on providing vascular access education for physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. The President for the 2016 – 2017 term is Dr. Jack Work, the president-elect for next term is Dr. Jeffery H. Lawson.
Publishers of the Journal of Vascular Access, distributed bimonthly online version. Original articles of reporting clinical and laboratory studies in the field of vascular access. This includes vascular access for all applications including chemotherapy, hemodialysis, critical care, apheresis, home infusion therapy, and emergency room applications. VASA holds biannual odd-year Practicum event and an even-year Symposium event.
